INTERGOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS

The Fire District currently serves one city, several smaller communities and a large unincorporated portion of Yakima County. The Department has strong ties to the Federal Fire service and the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR). In an effort to be responsive to the needs of these individual communities and organizations, staff works closely with elected and appointed officials in each jurisdiction to ensure their expectations are met and their issues addressed.

In addition, to keep connected with its communities, staff members and firefighters attend  neighborhood association, and civic group meetings as much as possible.

At the state level, the Department frequently works with the Washington State Patrol and Fire Marshal's Office. Member's of the District are involved with Washington State All-Risk Management Teams and travel throughout the country to manage large incidents in a mutual aid capacity. The Department also participates and encourages a inter agency projects with the DNR throughout the Wildland Fire season. The District Commissioners and Staff also participate in other projects that deal with other agencies in state government on regulatory issues and matters of common interest.

At the regional level, the District maintains a relationship with Safe Kid Coalitions and Chief's Associations to ensure cooperation and coordination in planning and service delivery.
